Wow! More and more peonies...it's wonderful to me how many people are just as in love with this flower as I am! I cannot get enough of them...in all colors...and all shapes and sizes!
Here is another cake topper made with an open peony and bud, hydrangeas, filler flowers and buds, and lots of luscious green leaves. I have worked with this color palette before, and really love it! Peaches, pinks, greens and creamy-white...all set against a background of dark chocolate:

ReplyDeleteHi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteStunning!!! For this particular flower cake topper, did you insert the flowers into the cake using a flower pick? Or did you arrange the flowers into styrfoam and add it on top of the cake?
H
Thanks so much! The peony was made on a wooden skewer and was stuck straight into the cake. I added a small ring of fondant under the peony and arranged all the buds, fillers and leaves in the fondant. No styrofoam for this one as it would be too much extra work. x
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! And thank you for answering Jackie! Just one more question - The peony was on a skewer but I assume there were wires for all the petals that had to be arranged/wrapped around the skewer - So the wires will still be around the skewers?! Did you wrap them using dental floss, cut the wires below the the floss and then add a ring of fondant? So that the wires don't touch the cake itself?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
H
The wires are taped around the skewer...and I just put the whole thing into the cake. I wear gloves when I tape for this type of situation, and you can trim the wires back a bit. If you cut the wires completely off below the floss then the petals would all fall off. If you don't want the tape in the cake, you can also use a plastic flower pik to hold the stem. That will be partially anchored into the cake. If you re-create this peony flower topper I'd love to see it...be sure to let me know!
