Petalsweet Class Photos - *February*

I finally have a few moments to share some great photos from recent classes! It has been such a pleasure to have the opportunity to teach at the wonderful Ro Z's Sweet Art Studio here in San Diego, as well as at the fabulous Minette Rushing's Custom Cakes in Savannah. With classes filled with such talented, kind and fun students, I am feeling very blessed indeed!

The first group of photos were taken by one of my lovely students from the Savannah classes, Yoshiko Santoso. She was a student in my Ranunculus and Peony Topper classes, and this was her first time making sugar flowers! As you will see in the photos, not only is she a very talented photographer, but she is also now a wonderful sugar artist as well! She was gracious to share these with me and let me post them here...thank you Yoshiko!!

Yoshiko took this great photo of her beautiful topper once she got it home...and you can find more of Yoshiko's beautiful photography on her website here!

I also have a few great photos from my recent Peony class here in San Diego! Here is one at the end of the first day with everyone's peony petals drying:

Fabulous students and their gorgeous peonies:

Many thanks to all of my wonderful students for coming to class and being your fun and fabulously talented selves! It was great to meet you and work with you! And thank you to my hosts, Minette Rushing and Ro Zinniger - I'm so grateful for the opportunity to teach in your studios!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Ooo, a post! I have been hanging out for a new dose of petal beauty. I really can't stop looking at your arrangements - the colours are so complimentary and subtle. Very chic. My hydrangea cutters arrived (I commented a few days ago on your hydrangea tute) and I have made a few. I totally forgot to use the balling tool on the edges of the petals so my blooms are a little on the chunky side. Also, I dusted them with scrapings of chalk (a more economical option at this stage) and the colour is difficult to create a strong hue and the chalk appears to be heavy in some spots leaving a mottled type effect. Not so great. Do you have any advice for using chalks? I'm sure petal dust would be easier but I have made this purchase and want to try to make it work. If you don't have any hints, no worries.

I'll look forward to your next post :)

  4. Thanks so much everyone!

Kate - it's great to use chalks...I have a set I use as well. I scrape mine with a sharp blade to create a powder, and usually mix with a bit of cornstarch to make the resulting dust more smooth and even. You have to mix really well with your brush to break up any larger bits of color. That will probably help with the uneven deposits on your flowers. Let me know how it goes! Jacqueline

  6. Cornstarch. Velllly interlesting... Heh, thanks for the tips Jaqueline. In between feeds, nappy changes and playtime I have been making a monster mess at the kitchen table. I hope to have my little PetalSweet inspired bouquet finished by next week. It'll be great to see what you think.

    Until then!

  8. Hi Jess! There are several companies that make good peony cutter sets...Sunflower Sugar Art and CelCakes are two of them. You can find both online...try Sunflower's own site as well as Global Sugar Art. I have designed my own set of cutters, and will have it available for sale soon! Information will be posted here on my blog as well as on my Facebook page. Let me know if you have any more questions! Jacqueline
