Sugar Flower Tulip Cake Topper

I finally had the chance to make more tulips and incorporate them into a cake topper! And just as I had envisioned when I first made them a few weeks ago, I paired the tulips with green hydrangea and white filler flowers...all against clean, white fondant and simple grosgrain ribbon.

Here are some photos of my flowers in progress:

And a close-up of the topper:

And the final cake design:

More sugar flowers and some class updates coming soon!

  2. Hi Jacqueline, how many days in advance do you normally prepare the flowers before the actual day.? Thanks

  3. Hi Nur! Thank you for visiting my blog and for your lovely comments! The flowers can be prepared weeks ahead of time. If possible, I prepare the petals and let them dry, then put them away in boxes until a few days before the event. Then I paint and dust the petals, tape them into complete flowers and arrange them accordingly. Jacqueline

  9. Hi Jane,
Thanks for your message...I don't make too many closed tulips, but mostly more open parrot tulips. You might want to check out my friend Rylan's blog Art and Appetite...he has links to a ton of online tutorials and you can probably find good instructions for the tulips you want to make. 10. Wow! You are so talented. Your take on parrot tulips is modern yet still whimsical and sophisticated. If you don't mind telling me, where did you get the trays that you used to form the petals?

  11. Thank you...they are chocolate molds for eggs. You can find them at some cake decorating stores, or check online for chocolate molds.
